Rat Basterdz show in Charlotte Review

Posted by cchilab - 1 month ago

Hey all. I went to the screening of Ratbasterdz Episode 3 last week. Thought I'd give you my thoughts.

Now, I live really close to Charlotte, thus I have the convenience of seeing Jon's work every time he hosts one of these things. However, many of his fans, do not. It's nuts to meet people who travel from across the country to see a <10 minute film. THAT'S dedication right there. Attending the events in the first place, is a different story.

I'ma keep it real, these venues are overwhelming as fuck. It is damn near impossible to have a conversation in any of these places. I wanna mingle with fellow animators, artists, actors, and fans. Yet, I often have to repeat myself like 10 times, or just communicate via pen and paper. I hope one day we can have one of these screenings in a much more quiet and reserved environment. Because, I feel like there is very little overlap between the people going there for the local music and the people going there for Jon. In my case. I'm only showin' up for Jon, as were most of the people I interacted with.

As for the film itself, it was GREAT. A nice change of pace from last year's very slow calm episode. Proving that this series is capable of diverse types of storytelling. This episode had sooo much in your face action. The animation and talent is always super stellar on these things. I think the linework may be my favorite thing about it. Everything about it reminded me a lot of this Happy Tree Friend's episode, which is something I LOVED growing up. I feel like I'm 12 on my dogshit laptop again, and I mean that in the best way possible. Plus, I was stoked to hear Mr. Castenada's voice again. I think he may be my favorite side-character. (Favorite main character has to be Wade, but most of you already know that for... reasons.) The music is great, and the twist was fantastic.

So, @jonathan, no hard feelings. I will always attend your screenings, come hell or highwater.

YOU RULE!!!!! sorry it was so hard to communicate with the loud musics! was dope to see you and to see this KICKASS episode party!

tyyyyy

Even tho the music and vibe of the event might not be your speed, I really appreciate you always coming out and supporting what we're doing with these. I do agree they are insanely overstimulating, but I also enjoy that aspect of them haha. It'd be neat to maybe have some kind of preshow/afterparty setup that's a little more chill, I'll think on that idea... Thanks for all the kind words, and sorry I didn't get more time to talk this time around!

tyvm jon, very appriciated
